Hornet Nest In Your Yard? What You Need To Do
Hornets are not a pest that you want to have in your yard. They can be very territorial and when angered or bothered, they will sting, and you may be stung by not just one hornet, you may have a lot of them sting you. They are a dangerous pest to have in your yard and need to be taken care of immediately. If you have hornets in your yard, the best thing you can do is leave them alone and stay away from the nest, then call a pest control company to get rid of the nest and these pests for you. If they are a complete nuisance to you and your family and you need to get rid of them immediately, there may be a few things you can do. Read on for helpful information.
Remove The Nest
You're going to want to remove the nest while the hornets are inside of it to better kill off the hornets. If you just remove the nest without the hornets in it, they will return to the same area to make a new nest. You need to kill the hornets inside as well. This is tricky, but it can be done; however, the best time to do it is at night when the hornets aren't as active as they are during the day and are more than likely inside the nest. To remove the nest, you need to soak it with a pesticide. Using a garden hose or a pressure washer won't kill the hornets, it will just destroy the nest itself.
Destroy the Nest
Once the nest has been soaked, it may fall to the ground. When this happens, spray it some more with the pesticide spray. Once you no longer see any hornets nearby and there aren't any flying about, you should destroy the nest. You can do this by spraying it with water or by stomping on it, but again, you need to do this carefully and be sure there aren't any of these pests still alive nearby.
Watch The Area
Keep an eye out in the same area where the hornets were located to be sure they aren't building another nest nearby. If you have these pests still, or you see that they are building a new nest, you should hire a professional to come out and help you get rid of the hornets, as they can do a more thorough job.
Hornets can be a very dangerous pest to deal with and should be handled by a pest control specialist. If you have a hornet nest in your yard, hire a pro to help you. Look for a local pest control service.
