As a homeowner, you're going to encounter a lot of different issues. One of which could be an issue with pests. You may have a few different pests throughout your time as a homeowner—anything from ants to spiders, or even other pests such as raccoons or opossums. If you have a pest issue, there are a few things you should know to help you get rid of them and to help prevent them in the first place. Read on for a few helpful tips.

Keep Drains Clean

You should keep your drains clean in order to prevent fruit flies. Fruit flies can live in the drains of your home, nesting in the clogs in the drain from hair and other debris. If you have a clog in your drain, even if it isn't noticeable, you could still have a fruit fly problem. If you see a lot of fruit flies in your home, pour bleach, boiling water, or vinegar/baking soda into your drain to clean them out and to help kill the fruit flies as well.

Put Away Food

Food on your counters could be attracting pests such as fruit flies or even ants. If you have a lot of food out on your counters, put it away and clean up your food prep areas as well. Fruit left out can also attract spiders as well. Put your fruit away and move other food to your pantry or to the refrigerator and keep your counters clear and clean, wiping them down with a soapy water solution.

Get Rid Of Clutter

Clutter around your home can attract a lot of different pests. If you have clutter either outside or inside of your home, get rid of it. You may be attracting pests such as ants, spiders, roaches, and other larger pests as well, including mice, raccoons, or opossums. Get rid of the clutter in your home and keep your home clean.

Keep Your Home Clean

Vacuum and dust your house often, and move your furniture around once in a while to clean beneath it as well. Dust mites can be beneath these areas, and in your bedroom, you could be housing bed bugs. Keep your home clean and deep clean it every couple of months.

To prevent pest issues, use the tips above to help you. If you end up with a pest issue that you aren't able to get rid of on your own, hire a pest control company to get rid of the pests for you. Contact a pest control service for more information.
