1. Noises

Termites actually make noise when they are munching away on the wood around your home. They also make noise to alert their colony of danger. Other types of pests also make noises, so be careful when going to look for whatever is making the noises. Scratching noises may also be mice or other rodents, or you could be hearing roaches in your home as well.

2. Discarded Wings

Termites will lose their wings during their lifetime, usually when they've found their mates, so if you're seeing discarded wings around your home, either interior or exterior, it could be from termites. You may also find dead termites or other signs in the same area as well. You may also find live termites in this area. These termites may be crawling around or they may be flying around, as some of those termites may still have their wings attached.

3. Mud Tunnels

Termites create tunnels in which to make their way to the wood in your home. If you notice these tunnels, which can be in all different patterns, unlike wasp tunnels, which are usually fairly uniform. Termite tunnels are made of mud and help to hide themselves from predators to protect their colony. If you spot these tunnels on your home, either inside or outside, you can destroy them, but be careful when doing so if you aren't sure if it is a termite tunnel or a wasp tunnel.

4. Sawdust

If you haven't done any sawing or other projects around your home in a while, and you are noticing sawdust in various places, it may be from termites doing some work of their own. Termites will leave behind sawdust as they are eating away at your wood. Tap the wood near where you have seen the sawdust to see if the wood is hollow. If it is, it could be due to termite damage.
